Landcare Australia awarded us $960 to build another raingarden at our school. Raingardens are self-watering, low-maintenance gardens designed to capture storm water and clean it before it runs into rivers or creeks. Our school is built above one of the major storm water drains in St Kilda, which runs into Elsternwick Creek, and we have put a number of initiatives in place to ensure our run-off water is as clean as possible. Installing a raingarden will significantly add to this effort.
The local Men’s Shed in South Melbourne will build the garden and we will use native Australian plants from a local nursery S.K.I.N.C. to attract native wildlife.
Thank you to Anabel Herr who wrote the funding application. Congratulations! Another positive outcome for SKPS.
