Once again, The Australian Ballet has returned to work with our students. This year, the children in Year 5 were the lucky ones to experience the Steamdance program! Our school is immensely fortunate, as we have been involved since the inception in 2007.
Every time The Australian Ballet returns, is a time of celebration. The children are always highly engaged and motivated, and they develop a greater understanding of self and others.
The benefits of the Steamdance program are significant and include:
- raising awareness of ballet as an art form
- skill development in dance
- developing a passion for dance
- making connections between dance, fitness and body development
- enjoyment and entertainment through the performing arts
The relationship that we have developed with the Australian Ballet directly supports the Department’s FISO Model, particularly in regard to learning communities.
The dancers are real, the movement is within an arm’s reach, the activities are motivating and the discussions are driven by the students to a certain degree, which when combined, make for meaningful and authentic learning. The program provides children with the opportunity to see, feel and experience ballet in their own backyard!
