BOLT is a mentor program supporting boys to kick-start their transition into high school with a range of skill building activities. We have been working in partnership with Southport Uniting Care to have this program run at our school for the past 2 years. The program is facilitated by qualified youth co-ordinators. The boys involved participate in a range of activities held once a week at lunchtime and include activities such as bike mechanics, sports and creative arts.
The youth co-ordinators also act as mentors, leading students in discussions on relevant topics such as violence, masculinity, anger management and the challenges of transitioning into the teen years.
Boys who have participated in the program this year were presented with a medal today and tomorrow they will be presented with the bike they have been working on throughout the program. It is now their own to keep!
The wonderful news is that the program will continue in 2017.
