The VicHealth Awards have been celebrating outstanding achievements in health promotion for more than 20 years, with this year’s Awards seeing a record number of nominees.

Our very own Dr Cranky was one of those award winners! He won the award for Promoting Health through Physical Activity and Sport and we would just like to congratulate him on behalf of our community! It is an incredible achievement and well deserved! The impact on our families has been enormous.

At SKPS, our families donate their unwanted or unused bikes which are repaired at our school Bicycle Hospital in Skipper’s Burrow by parent volunteers. These bikes are then given to children at our school who need them, with a helmet and lock if needed. Bike repairs are also done.

Dr Cranky’s aims to:

  1. Build connections at school and the local community by providing a regular, inclusive activity that all can participate in
  2. Reduce the environmental impact of unused or discarded bikes by recycling and repairing them
  3. Get more children and families riding; especially those who would not otherwise be able to as they do not have access or can’t afford a working bike.

Dr Cranky has refurbished over 200 bikes here at SKPS and we are all very proud to be part of such an amazing program! Thank you Dr Cranky for helping us stay fit and healthy! (and stopping bikes going to landfill!) If you would like to volunteer, then please drop in to the Bicycle Hospital on Monday morning before school, or Monday afternoon after school!

Congratulations again to Dr Cranky and his amazingly talented and skilled team of volunteers!
