Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred outside a neighbouring primary school (Middle Park) this week. A female student was approached by an unknown male. This matter has been reported to the Victorian Police.
The safety of our children is always our number one priority and while we have no reason to believe that this person will approach our children, it is a timely reminder to reinforce the following safety messages to your children:
Always walk directly to and from school
Avoid walking alone
Be alert – earphones and headphones can reduce your child’s awareness considerably.
If there is anything that makes your child feel uncomfortable in any way, they should leave the areas and report any concerns to a trusted adult
Avoid talking to strangers
If there is a car involved, remembering the number plate is of huge assistance to the police – but should only be attempted if your child is safe.
These conversations can help ensure our children feel safe and confident to handle a difficult situation if it arises.
I also encourage you to speak to your children and encourage them to report any concern going to and from school or anything suspicious to you, the school and the police. You can contact your local police station (for many this will be Chapel Street) to report an incident or phone 1800 333 000 to reach Crime Stoppers.
If you have any concerns, please contact me at school – my door is always open.
