Our school’s oval is loved by all. This is something we have always known. The love of our oval was reinforced at our community masterplan sessions where tremendous feedback was received from all community members: children, parents/carers and staff.
We have hundreds of children playing on it daily, it is used by the greater public during weekends, and we all gaze at it and enjoy the openness and space it provides for our children to be able to stretch, run and play, but are you aware of the tender love and care that is injected into it!
In the last couple of years we have had a $40,000 sprinkler system installed, We water it regularly, using where possible water from the large water tank next to the senior play equipment, we aerate it, seed it and weed it, adhering to our maintenance schedule! Last summer we spent $3,000 just watering it. At the moment it has lots of Rye Grass weed and Onion weed. Both of these will be addressed once school finishes for the year.
Our oval does struggle under the feet of so many children, it does take a battering from the sun, but it has stood the test of time and we will continue to look after it!
