Last Friday we held our annual Parents as Helpers Numeracy course which was run by Chris Borcek and Katie Ahearn.
The morning workshop covered the role of Parent Helpers in the classroom at SKPS and the immense value that they add to the lives of our students, as well as reinforcing the home and school connection. To help support the parents, we delved into the big ideas in number that are taught in maths lessons and that provide the foundations for our children becoming successful mathematicians. The use of mathematical language was another key component that ran throughout the session. Parents had some practice with games they would be using in the classrooms and tools they can draw upon to best support the children. They were then invited into the Prep classes to try out their new knowledge and skills, teaching the children a card game to support counting and number sequence.
We would love to thank all the enthusiastic parents that attended and cannot wait to see them in our classrooms!
