Last week Project Rocket ran several sessions at school for our Year 5/6 children, parents and staff. Each session delved into the world of cyber safety, providing a wealth of information to get everyone thinking.
The workshops for our Year 5/6 children introduced the opportunities and challenges of the online world with a real understanding of current social networking sites and online youth culture. Whilst the online world is a realm of endless possibility, Project Rocket highlighted the challenges that come with this, including the rapid spread of information, miscommunications and cyberbullying. The sessions presented a range of in-touch, realistic strategies for our Year 5/6 children in dealing with cyberbullying and creating positive connections online. They also provided examples of how to approach cyberbullies through fun and safe communication challenges. Many real life stories were added to the presentations.
The parent session was well attended and the feedback received was very positive. Lucy (presenter) shared her in-depth knowledge of major social media platforms and the issue of cyberbullying, while also providing a range of hot tips and strategies that parents/carers can use to support their children online. This session allowed for an open Q&A, however all questions seemed to have been answered as there was only one question!
