Our year 5/6 have prevented 540kg of waste going to landfill this year by collecting organic waste in their classrooms. The Environmental Team and their teacher Eric have set up a organic waste collection system in the 5 classrooms and spread the organic waste between the chickens, worm farms and compost bins. In recent months they have expanded the organic waste collection to the Year 4s and hopefully next year the whole school will be on board.
This is a fantastic way to reduce our carbon footprint! Not only are they creating valuable soil and fertilizer for our school they are also setting a great example and hopefully inspire others.
Well done environmental team!
