Technology
We understand that using technology is part of living and working in the future world so we aim to use technology to enhance our students’ learning wherever possible.
Through increased access to digital technologies, students can benefit from enhanced learning that is interactive, collaborative, personalised and engaging.
Digital technologies enable our students to interact with and create high quality content, resources and tools. They also enable personalised learning tailored to each students’ particular needs and interests. The use of technology transforms assessment, reporting and feedback, driving new forms of collaboration and communication between the school and our families.
We believe that the use of digital technologies at school allows the development of valuable skills and knowledge and prepares students to thrive in our globalised and interconnected world.
We provide students with rich opportunities to support their learning and development in a range of digital areas:
- Identify and explore digital systems: laptops, tablets, applications
- Coding and programming using a variety of software and apps
- Internet research and use
- Designing, creating and presenting digital content through a variety of digital hardware and software
Successfully developing healthy and responsible digital citizens requires a holistic approach, and that’s why our school’s cyber safety ecosystem allows us to work collaboratively with families to support our students’ digital development and provide advice and support to our parents and carers.
St Kilda Primary School conducts annual Cyber Safety workshops for students, parents and staff. The key ideas explored in these workshops are regularly followed up with our students during classroom lessons throughout the year. Our SKPS Cyber Safety Hub is an online resource available to our community that hosts a wide range of cyber safe information including advice on setting up parental controls, dealing with online issues and app/game reviews. Further information on these topics can also be found at esafety and commonsense media.
Our school’s vision is to empower students to use digital technologies to reach their personal best and fully equip them to contribute positively to society as informed, happy, healthy young adults.
